She's a Two Pounder!!!

As I’m sure you can surmise from the clever title, Mikaila passed a major milestone today surpassing the 2 pound mark. She is officially 915 grams, or slightly more than 2lbs. I know I went on and on about artificial milestones but this one feels more substantive. This is a very exciting day.

I had a chance to Kangaroo Care Mikaila for 90 minutes this afternoon. The session went very well for both father and daughter. I’m sure there was a period of adjustment for her as my chest is slightly hairier than is Kim’s but she forged ahead without complaint. I have attached a few pictures of our time together. It appears from the picture on the left that Mikaila isn’t the only one to put on a few grams. Daddy is still carrying a bit of pregnancy weight.

As is her way, Mikaila had no problems today with her feeds. Her ability to completely absorb her feeds has fueled her impressively consistent growth this week. We expect she will keep it up.

Mikaila will be 4 weeks old tomorrow evening at 8:19. Wednesday, she should have her third and final head ultrasound. Assuming all goes well, and it will, there are no further scheduled examinations of her head.

That is all I have for this evening.

Dara, Kim and Mikaila,
Congrats on 2 lbs. I have been following Mikaila's progress daily thanks to Wendy sharing your blog. I have you all in my prayers. I was with Kaitlyn Friday night and she keeps Mikaila in her prayers every night. Mikaila is a beautiful baby and god bless you all. I know you will need to remember these times when she gives you the smart mouthed response at the teenage years!! Dara you need to make this a journal for Mikaila to have for self. You should consider being a professional writer. I enjoy keeping up with Mikaila's progress. Wendy's mom, Diane

Congratulations to our big girl!Love can move mountains, or at least any obstacles that may have stood in Mikaila's way.
Re: pix...We're used to seeing her beautiful mother Kimmy as the perfect backdrop to Mikaila's cuteness ... and now its my 6'2 ex-football playing venture capitalist son, wow ... all I can say is, he may not be quite as beautiful, but its nice to learn from this blog, that he's the world's best and most loving father. By the way, Re: kangaroo care. I found out yesterday while golfing in 50 degree weather (where the balls are so cold they're hard as rocks) that it works on golf balls too....

NO worries, Daddy Dear- I'm on it! She would have been sporting new duds over the weekend, but one of her outfits was too big and the other she peed on. This is a MAJOR MILESTONE- three new little gown are ordered and on their way. But a milestone this big really deserves a BIG present from UNCLE MIKIE!!! Oh Uncle Mikie, where are you???

Uncle Mikie cant wait to spoil the crap out of this little one. I was just going to lend her one of my tank tops for now though. We appear to be about the same size.

Her progress is nothing short of awesome. As is Dara's writing. Very well done. I feel smarter for reading it.

Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.
