Mikaila was very uncomfortable today with reflux. The formula that we mix with breast milk to create the Mikaila Special (her own proprietary elixir)really does a number on her tummy. We asked Dr. Miller if it was ok to scale back on the amount of formula in her blend and he consented to moving her to what is essentially a 27 calorie blend. It seemed to help a little bit. We hope over time to ween her off of the formula and to 100% breast milk. Her system seems to handle pure breast milk without issue.
A visiting nurse from Schenectady County paid Mikaila a visit today. Given Mikaila's low birth weight and prematurity she qualifies for this service. She took a baseline and will return in 2 weeks.
That is about all I have for tonight. I may scale back a bit on the posts reserving them for items of note.

Checking this blog has become part of my daily routine....I was sad
:( not to have an update this morning....
But thats ok Dara, I totally understand.
And when Mikaila has settled down nicely, please do post some pictures of her in her Australian themed room!...I am so happy with Mikaila's weight gain....my 16 year old daughter Samiya was 5 1/2 pounds when she was born.....and she looked the size of a chicken!...lol....
So do you guys still have to stay up all night holding Mikaila?...can't wait for the next post... :)
We all know that our Mikaila was a wee tot at 1#-5oz at birth and was brought into this world very early in the game. Approx. 12 & 1/2 weeks early. Now that she has past the 5# mark, I can offer an additional perspective on her progress. (I know that Dara and Kimmy want to take it one day at a time, but I can't resist putting the following offer on the table.) Kimmy's original due date was June 18, a date 12 days from now. Given that her blog is "Grow, Mikaila Grow", we can all project what she will have grown to by June 18. My guess is 6#-8oz, and if this, she seems to me to have fallen into accepted standards for birth weight at that time. Her doctors, some months ago, were concerned that she was very small for her time in the womb, so this would be another indicator of her remarkable progress. I have a bottle of 1988 Chateau Lynch Bages for the person who comes the closest to her weight on the morning of June 18th. The winner can pick the bottle up at Dara's or here in Maine. (In case of ties-sorry, only one bottle left.) All guesses or should I say intellegent projections must be in by midnight June 8th. GOOD LUCK!
P.S. Knowing how Mikaila's father enjoys a good glass of wine, AND games of chance as well ... Dara may also make a guess.
(So long as he does not alter Mikaila's formula at the last minute accordingly)! ha ha
